Institute of Women's Studies 10th Anniversary
As part of Homecoming 2009, the Institute of Women’s Studies at the University of Ottawa held its 10th anniversary on September 25th. To celebrate this event, the Institute organized a round table on the theme "From local to global: 10 years at the Institute of Women’s Studies".
Former Directors of Women’s Studies were invited to share their memories and experiences of the past years with the audience. Dr. Ann B. Denis, Full Professor at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Faculty of Social Sciences and pioneer of Women’s Studies, Dr. Naomi R. Goldenberg, Full Professor, at the Department of Classics and Religious Studies, Faculty of Arts, also a pioneer of Women’s Studies, Dr. Ruby Heap, Associate Vice-President, Research and Full Professor at the Department of History, Faculty of Arts, Dr. Andrea Martinez, Full Professor, at the Institute of Women’s Studies and currently Director of the School of International Development and Global Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr. Kathryn Trevenen, Assistant Professor, at the Institute of Women’s Studies and School of Political Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences and Mrs Kaoutar Kaddouri, Graduate Student in Women’s Studies, conveyed lively insights into the impressive history of Women’s Studies at the University of Ottawa. The successful event was followed by a cocktail reception.
